CSLF Makes College More Affordable by Eliminating Fee for Stafford Loan Borrowers

CSLF Makes College More Affordable by Eliminating Fee for Stafford Loan Borrowers. CSLF to Pay Three-Percent Origination Fee on Behalf of Student Borrowers

Rocky Hill, CT – January 4, 2006 - The Connecticut Student Loan Foundation (CSLF) is pleased to announce that it will eliminate the three-percent origination fee on subsidized and unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans, providing borrowers with more money for other education related expenses.

“Eliminating the origination fee is yet another example of CSLF’s commitment to reducing higher education costs for students,” said Mark W. Valenti, President of CSLF. “As a non-profit institution, CSLF is dedicated to helping families plan for and pursue their postsecondary education dreams. CSLF’s borrower saving initiatives and borrower education programs help to underscore this commitment,” said Mr. Valenti.

Effective for all CSLF and Susie Mae Stafford Loans (lender codes 828614 and 824246) guaranteed on or after May 1, 2006, CSLF will pay the three-percent origination fee to the U.S. Department of Education on behalf of student borrowers. The fee is currently paid by the borrower and deducted from loan proceeds at the time of disbursement.

By eliminating this fee, CSLF can save a borrower hundreds of dollars in student loan fees. As an example, a student borrowing $12,000.00 over the course of his or her education will save $360.00, which can be used to pay other education related expenses, such as tuition and books.

For more information about the zero origination fee or other CSLF loan products, visit www.cslf.com or contact an Academic Services Manager at 1(800) 237-9721.
